About

We are a group of 5 students taking the CLAS344 paper at the University of Otago in 2020. This website was created as part of an assignment looking at the use of coins during the reign of the Julio-Claudian family. The coins that we chose to focus on all feature depictions of goddesses and we specifically focused on how emperors used the depiction of goddesses on their coins to spread particular messages. We have 4 coins in this exhibition which are Augustus & Pax, Caligula & Vesta, Claudius & Ceres, and Nero & Victory. All of the coins used in this exhibition are currently housed at Otago Museum and were photographed by Charlotte Dunn. We would also like to give a special thanks to Dr Gwynaeth McIntyre (Senior Lecturer at Otago University) who has given us the ability to present this website to you all. We hope you enjoy looking at our research and learn something new! Alison Lee, Nicholas Arroyo, Janaya Pfahlert, Kamalani Tukariri and Ashleigh Sargent.
